Ludvika became the first municipality in Dalarna to be accredited as a Fairtrade City in November 2008.
This was in recognition of the municipality´s commitment to supporting Fairtrade and using products with the Fairtrade logo. And, Ludvika retained its status as a Fairtrade City in 2010. The municipality´s Fairtrade work is led by a steering committee that increase understanding, gain commitment from new organisations, and inspires people in the community to buy Fairtrade products. Community organisations, businesses, schools and individuals all contribute to making Ludvika a Fairtrade City. And, there is an increasing range of Fairtrade products available in hotels, restaurants, cafes, working places and shops as well as in the municipality´s administrative departments.
What is Fairtrade?
Fairtrade is about prices, working conditions, local sustainability, and fair terms of trade for farmers and workers in the developing world. By choosing Fairtrade branded products you, as a consumer, can help farmers and workers in developing lands to improve their working conditions and have more control over their lives.
